2023 Gil Hanse Renovation
Golf Course Master Plan
In 2021 the Colonial membership approved a Golf Course Renovation Master Plan. The course renovation will be led by world renowned golf course architect, Gil Hanse. This renovation began in June 2023 and will include all new grass, irrigation, drainage, hydronic's green cooling system, as well as the proposed Hanse architectural improvements.
Gil Hanse
Known for his artful restorations and a portfolio of internationally acclaimed course designs, Hanse accentuates natural elements to create distinctive course features while modernizing the original architects' intent. Players can expect a challenge reminiscent of the course's original form, dating back to the 1941 U.S. Open.
John Bredemus
John Bredemus, a Princeton civil engineering graduate and accomplished athlete and golfer, moved to Texas as a math teacher, but was ultimately lured to a career in golf. By 1934, he had designed and/or constructed more than 50 golf courses in Texas, Mexico and surrounding states. He had co-founded the Texas PGA and was instrumental in creating the Texas Open in 1922, and landing the PGA Championship for Dallas' Cedar Crest CC in 1927. Bredemus was already experimenting with bentgrass in Texas, aligning perfectly with Marvin Leonard's goals for Colonial.
Perry Maxwell
Known as the "father of Oklahoma golf" was a world-renowned golf course architect. He designed notable golf courses such as Southern Hills country club, old town club, and his home course Dornick hills. He is also known for his work with other great golf course architects on courses, like Augusta, national golf club, Crystal Downs, in Pine Valley. Both Maxwells success and proximity to Fort Worth drew the attention of Marvin Leonard.
